Stories, Stories, Stories in Reception
Little Red Hen
This half term we are focusing on traditional tales in our Literacy learning. Ask your child to retell you the story of The Little Red Hen. The children are becoming confident at using all the story telling actions. Do you have other farm books or traditional tales you can read together at home?
Mrs Grant spoke to parents on Thurs 18th Jan about home reading. Now every child has a school reading book and a green reading record. Please read with your child as much as possible at home and write a little note in their record each time your child reads. Please bring their book and reading record into school every Wednesday. Any questions about home reading please asked one of the Reception team.
National Story Telling Week- 29th January to 2nd February
As part of National Story Telling week Reception will join with Y1 and Y2 to share stories throughout the week. We would also like to invite parents and carers from Reception to stay after drop off on the morning of Wednesday 31st January to share a book with the children. We would love Mums, Dads and Grandparents to bring in a story suitable for the children to read aloud to a small group of children. There will be a sign up sheet in class, please add your name if you're free and able to stay for approx.20 minutes on Wed 31st Jan.
In PE on Friday mornings the children have been creating actions and movements linked to the Julia Donaldson story ‘The Highway Rat’. The children have learnt the Highway Rat song & are enjoying pretending to be the mean character. If you are free please come to our first class assembly on Friday 16th February at 2.30pm to see our dance and find out what else we’ve been learning this half term.
In the meantime do take a look at our new working wall in the classroom each week to see what the children have been learning in both literacy and maths.
