Charlie the dog visits Y2

Today Charlie came to visit Y2 as part of our learning about Dogs. In English we have been using books to find out more about dogs inlcuding how to look after a dog, puppies and the different breeds of dog. Charlie (who is a lhasa apso) came in to help us some more. We had a whole morning of different dog activities. We made origami dogs, sketched dogs and did some more fact finding. We also went out in groups to find out more about Charlie (with his help).

We used our knowledge from our workshop with Emma-Jo from Dog's Trust to help us. We knew we had to stay calm and not to be too noisy around Charlie. Did you know a dog's hearing is 4 times better than ours? We found out what Charlie likes to eat, play with and even why he has a collar around his neck with a tag on.

Everyone in Y2 was amazing today at helping to look after Charlie. Well done Y2!

Charlie says "Woof, woof, woof" which I am pretty sure means "Thanks for having me Y2!"

Weston Park Trip

Year One had a brilliant trip to Weston Park Museum today. Ahead of their new History Topic ‘Toys of the Past’ the children visited the local museum to see the travelling exhibition 'Small Stories'. The exhibition showed a selection of dolls houses from over the last 200 hundred years and gave the children an insight into toys and homes of the past.

The children used the interactive displays, dressed up and completed fun worksheets. The class also had fun in the section of the museum all about Sheffield. They tried on clogs, looked at toys from different eras and explored a traditional butchers shop.

After lunch, because the children have completed their marble challenge this term they were treated to a visit to Crookes Valley Park playground. They had great fun climbing, swinging and playing.

The children behaved beautifully all day and it was a super way to end the term. Thank you also to our supportive parents helpers.

The trial of Guy Fawkes

Today we ended our Gunpowder Plot unit of work by holding a courtroom debate. We chose if we wanted to be on the ‘Prosecution’ side to prove he was guilty or on the ‘Defence’ side to prove he was innocent. We had to think about what evidence we had. We recapped on what a fact and opinion was. We then used the evidence to try to prove that Guy Fawkes was guilty or not guilty. We even had time to question Guy Fawkes We had the sentence starters ‘In my opinion’ or ‘The facts lead me to the conclusion’ to help us and tried to use ‘because’ to justify our ideas.
