The trial of Guy Fawkes

Today we ended our Gunpowder Plot unit of work by holding a courtroom debate. We chose if we wanted to be on the ‘Prosecution’ side to prove he was guilty or on the ‘Defence’ side to prove he was innocent. We had to think about what evidence we had. We recapped on what a fact and opinion was. We then used the evidence to try to prove that Guy Fawkes was guilty or not guilty. We even had time to question Guy Fawkes We had the sentence starters ‘In my opinion’ or ‘The facts lead me to the conclusion’ to help us and tried to use ‘because’ to justify our ideas.

Baptism in Y2

In RE, as part of our signs and symbols topic, we have been learning all about Baptism. We have looked today at the different symbols that are used.

Remembering that 'A sign tells, a symbol makes us think' we have explored this more. We have looked into the white garments worn, why a Baptismal candle is used and then we thought about the blessing the person who is to be Baptised with water and annointing of the Oil. After thinking about the symbolism of the water and oil we decided to have a go. We all had a go at Baptising the doll. We then annointed each other with oil (sadly not the oil of Chrism but ordinary baby oil) saying " (name of the person being annointed) is a special friend of Jesus'. Afterwards we talked about how it felt to use the water and oil in this way.

Y2 Assembly song words

Here are the words to one of the songs we will be singing in our assembly on Friday 27th October. There is a link to the song on Youtube to help you practise.

A superhero needs a cape!

On Friday we were continuing with our quest to become superheroes by making our own capes. We have been busy thinking for a few weeks about the materials we could use, the design and also how we could attach things. We have been looking at recycled fashion and so made our capes out of materials that we have decided to re-use/ E.g. Empty bottles, scrap paper, odds and ends of wool etc. We had a great time making them.

Watch out for the debut of the capes at our assembly...

Supertato to the rescue!

Our class text for our English lessons at the moment is Supertato. This week and next week we are going to be planning and writing our own Supertato story. How better to get some inspiration that to make our own Supertato heroes! Check out the gallery to see more about how we made them.

Watch this space for more Supertato adventures...

A Super day in Y2!

What a super day we have had in Y2 today. Unfortunately Miss Healy, Miss Ward and Mr Wallace were out today but instead sent the 'Super' team of Superwoman, Supergirl and Superman to teach instead. There was also no children in Y2 today but they too had sent superheroes in their places!

As we had such special people in school today we did not do ordinary lessons. Instead we did superhero art (based on the ideas of Andy Goldsworthy), superhero training camp (to test our speed, agility, balance and resillience) and finally we went on a local walk.

We were going to go on a local walk but we were collect and solve clues across Ranmoor. The clues had a piece of a jigsaw on the back and when pieced together would reveal the location of Dr. Doom's secret lair. Luckily we managed to find all the clues in our teams, piece them together and Mr Fernandes was back in time for Hymn Practice!

Well done to all the superheroes today - Miss Healy, Miss Ward and Mr Wallace will not believe what you have been up to without them!!
