Learning Polish with a special visitor

Today, we were very lucky to have a student who has left St Marie's return to teach us some Polish. We learnt all about the history of Poland and some Polish phrases too!

Thank you very much, we all learnt some new things and had a great morning!

Y6 Badminton Tournament

On Saturday, some of our Y6 children respresnted St Marie's in a badminton tournament at Abbeydale Park Sports Club. The children all played so well and had a great time. Our boys came first in the singles and doubles games and some children also got into the quarter finals. Our girls were also fantastic and played in the quarter finals and came in third place!

Well done!

Language of the Month

Thank you to our school community for making ‘Language of the Month’ a great success. We would like to particularly thank all the parents/ carers who came into school to talk to the children in Yoruba and contributed to our whole school celebrations for Black History Month.

In November, we will be focusing on Polish. We welcome all parents/ carers who can speak Polish to come into school to teach some phrases, read a Polish story or perhaps talk to the children about Poland. We are asking children to bring in any Polish objects or photographs to add to our display in the dining room.

Here are a few simple words to speak at home:

hello – cześć (cheshch)

good day - dzień dobry (jen-dobri) ‎

good bye - ‎ do widzenia (dov-eedz-enya)

please - ‎ proszę (prosh-e)thank you - ‎ dziękuję (jen-ku-ye)

Football Superstars!

Today, some Year 5 and 6 children took part in the Premier League School Cup. The children played fantastically and did a great job representing St Marie's.

The mixed team made the semi- finals and the girls' team were able to get into the quarter finals! Well done all!

Black History Celebration

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Black History celebration at school today. It was a wonderful day of entertainment, dancing, music, singing and food to celebrate Black History and the diversity of our school . A huge thank you to the team of parents who organised it.

Language of the Month

In October, our Language of the Month is Yoruba!

Yoruba is most commonly spoken in Western Africa in Nigeria, Benin, Ghana and Togo.

We welcome all parents/ carers who can speak Yoruba to come into school to teach us some phrases, read a story or perhaps talk to the children about the language and culture. Please contact Miss Scriven if you would like to do this.

Here are a few simple words to speak at home:

hello  -  ba wo ni (bow-one-knee)

good morning – e ka ro (eh car raw)

thank you   -   o ṣe (oh shay)
