Girls Inspired by England International

Over 35 St Marie’s girls from Y3 and Y4 have been attending the FA and SSE sponsored programme, designed to introduce girls to the fundamental skills of football. The programme is run by Sheffield FC Ladies' General Manager Helen Mitchell and former player Lisa Giampalma (Notre Dame PE teacher). The coaching sessions have been a huge success and underline the importance of introducing girls to football at an early age.On Wednesday the girls met Notts County and England player Amy Turner. The girls got to ask Amy questions and to see the Women's FA Cup sponsored by SSE. Amy was a fantastic role model and inspiration to all the girls. A big thank you to SSE, Sheffield FC and Amy for making dreams comes true. Check out the photos below in the gallery.

City Champion at St Marie's

We have a double city champion! Congratulations to Chinua who is the Y6 city champion in 80m and received the Rod Clark Trophy winning in 11.24 seconds. Chinua is also the city champion in the Y6 boys long jump with a jump of 4m21cm. Fantastic! Our Y6 relay team came 3rd in the city too! Well done to all our athletes who competed in the city finals on Thursday evening: Chinua, Abi T, Finlay, Renee, Amy, Alan, Archie, Thomas, Joshua and Luke. You are all superstars and we are very proud of you.

Super Scooters!

On Thursday children were invited to bring in their scooters to participate in Scooter Club. Many children brought in their scooters that we ran out of room to store them in our scooter/ bike park! Children in Y6-Y1 came and showed their skills and had a go at the obstacle course which consisted of some tight corners, small gates to fit through and a circuit around the whole pitch.  The children also had opportunities to practise and show off their 'bunny hops'.

Reception children were treated to a master class by Mr Fernandes and practised their skills of scooting forward, braking and turning corners. All in all a great morning scooting! Watch this space for more Scooter Club coming your way soon....

Padley Winners!

On Wednesday morning Reception and KS1 went to All Saints to have our sports day. First we we got into our teams. Then we started the activities. At the activities we had to throw things, catch, sprint and jump. We even had to crawl through a colourful, bright tunel. After this we had some races, the teachers and Mummies and Daddies even had a race too! In the end we crowned Padley our winners! Well done to Padley and all the hardworking, enthusiastic children!

Wriiten by the Year 2 children.

Super Stadium Builders

As part of our Keep fit week reception have been challenged to make a stadium from around the world. Look at all the fabulous models they have made using the wooden blocks.

Little Herd Launch

Today, Kayla and Vincent from Year 1 went to the official launch of the Little Herd at the Winter Gardens. At the launch, they saw our fantastic elephant on display and lots of other Little Herd Sculptures, as well as meeting Theo the bear from Sheffield Children's Hospital.

Our elephant was designed with the help of one of our parents and painter Nick Grindrod. It was inspired by the journeys many children in developing countries make every day to provide fresh water for their families; each child used their unique finger print to add a droplet to the pathways mapped over the elephant’s body.

This summer a herd of elephant sculptures will descend on Sheffield for the biggest public art event the city has ever seen! The Little Herd will go on display in indoor venues fromJune 21st – 30th September 2016. Don’t forget, the St Marie’s elephant is on display in the Winter Gardens. The Herd of Sheffield elephant trail is released into the city fromJuly 11th – 5th October 2016 ...are you ready for the stampede!
