As part of our geography topic, Y3 have been learning about natural disasters. This week we made our own erupting volcanos! We made a chemical reaction by mixing an acid (vinegar) and an alkali (bicarbonate of soda), which released bubbles of carbon dioxide (CO2) like a pyroclastic flow. This moves very fast and is extremely dangerous, whilst lava flows move slowly and isn’t so much of a threat.
